Fifth blog for FMP Moving Images Project

Sorry its been a long time away here's a catch up from last time.

23/1/11

Started on rough storyboards what the Video may look like (some images below).

27/1/11

I have continued researching videos that contains graffiti and skating in. First video I've looked at is DC Shoes 'Pro tour Vegas: skate highlights'. What I like about the video, was the use of Black and White in video gives it different edge to the other what I've seen, may use in my video. Also, I liked the use of the camera angles, they were quite basic to do, quite cleaver to use in my film.

Next Video is called 'Max Miller: Skateboarding is forever' another DC shoes video. What I couldn't work for my video in this video would be tracking. However, what I did like is the camera shots were great but simple to create, which includes a fish eye lens, which work well in the video.

'New York graffiti' I didn't like the video overall. Such as the usage of tag graffiti, which make it tacky and terrible overall what ruined this video. But, what I did like in this video is the use of the audio and connects well with the fast paste of the video, which I did like in this video.

With the 'Airbrushed graffiti name', what I liked in this video was quite different than watching the previous video I looked at. It was very basic to film, just filming the canvas this worked well overall.

'Adidas Originals - meet la graffiti legend Slick' who's an American who gone to East London and graffiti. This video was the most realistic idea what I would like to go into my Final Major Project Film, I would like to do this similar techniques at the South Bank if possible.

1/2/11

Had a Mid-Term review with my tutor today, discussed what I need to do in this project next week such as production schedule and completing Storyboards for the 9th February. Also said there is a few new cameras they bought called: Sony nex-vg10, which is more compact than the Sony PD170, it uses a SD card rather than a MiniDV tape.

3/2/11

Went up to South Bank to do some Recce work such as lighting, camera angles and where to place interviews such as there is a bench up stairs to do some interviews, were the noise is less noisy than down stairs were they skate and graffiti. Also asking skaters and gratifiers who long does a giant piece of graffiti takes, they say possibly over one and half hours to do a bigger piece, while a medium size piece possibly 45 minutes (asking on takes and batteries for the camera).

An idea for a camera shot. Another idea for a camera shot with the London Eye in the background.

This is a possibility were I can do the interviews with Hungerford bridge and MI6 building in the background.

End of blog for now, next blog soon, bye.

Music track question to ask? Can you name it?

Just a question to ask, this video below, name this music track (first two minutes in) is called for a video from the Dakar Rally this year? Just asking because I might used this track for the FMP project coming up, and I don't know, I might use this for the score if it works. New bigger blog soon. Bye.

First blog of February for FMP

Forth blog of FMP moving images project so far, with this blog I'm focusing more on researching videos with BMX Skateboarding and Grafting.

5/1/11

Looking at some research which associated with Skating and Graffiti. First video I've looked at Adidas video on Youtube called Rolling London. This help me, were I can place the camera when I go to the South Bank to film, were the possibly the best idea were the camera shots can go (look at video for the first 30 seconds).

With these two videos below, these give a good examples of a good montage and usage of music tracks. What I like in these videos are the basic usage of the camera angles which can work in close and non close areas, also can work and can not work in my Final Major Project (FMP).

12/1/10

Today I have looked at some videos on Youtube with Graffiti in. First Video is about more of time lapse of a part in the film in a giant graffiti piece.

This video is another time lapse of a nine hour put into six minutes, if I need to this I need to have loads of batteries and tapes. Also this is very extreme to do this anyway.

This is another time lapse with a graffiti piece. But the different is normal time and cutting the unimportant stuff in this film (such as cutting out in-between spraying graffiti, just getting onto the next colour). With is quite interesting to find this on the internet. This is quite refreshing to watch this compare to original time lapse to watch, is more in normal then in a fast pace. I would like to try this for my FMP if possible.

18/1/10

Today I went up to the South Bank. To take some photos, so I can sketch these into my storyboards. Also to look at some locations I can film in the South Bank for safety reasons. What I've found out quite interesting when I was up there, was last time I want on a Weekend it was packed, with a not a lot of people being creative with there art work, skating so forth. So maybe filming in the week will be a better idea then filming in the weekend.

So therefore I can now concentrate on the storyboards.

End of blog for now. New blog soon. Bye.

The third blog of FMP moving images project so far

Third blog of FMP moving images project so far.

13/12/10

Today importing all the footage into Final Cut today. When looking at my footage there is a lot of lines across the screen. Also the audio didn't came out at all. Due to being MPG files, which worked well on the camera menu, but didn't work on Final Cut or even exporting the video. So in future I will not use this camera anymore, use a camera witch includes recording onto a mini DV tape such as using a Sony PD170 in future.

Also, the usage of the tri-pod was very stiff to use when tracking the skaters/riders. So in future needs a tri-pod needs to be less stiff to handle when tracking.

However I did make a test sequence from the South Bank from Saturday to show my peers on a later date. I've exported as a DV-PAL, Quicktime file. The only thing is missing is music I will add a later date.

14/12/10

NA (not attended) Up load video later in the week if possible.

23/12/10

Today I have added audio into video now, I've done this by going into Garageband. Then adding the audio i export this by share - export movie to disc. Got the final Movie file ready to export to Vimeo later in the week.

27/12/10

Uploaded the test video I shot at the South Bank a few weeks back, were up loaded onto Vimeo. I uploaded the same video with two different audio tracks. First music for the first video is 'NWA', track called 'Express Yourself'. And the second one is famous punk band 'The Sex Pistols', called 'Anarchy in the U.K.'. Would like some feedback. Also, I'm looking at some research now for this idea, I am more than likely going for this idea now.

The second blog of FMP moving images project

The second blog of FMP moving images project I written up so far.

24/11/10

Today I have gone up to White Hart Lane (Tottenham Hotspurs ground) to do some recce work. Took some images and some videos on my digital camera. Also I ask about some fans and shops about the ground scenario.

Such as explaining the new ground at White Hart Lane, also most fans don't want go to Stratford they want to stay here. Some shops owners explained that it doesn't matter that the ground stays or leaves. Main problem they will possibly build a supermarket near the ground which was interesting to hear.

26/11/10

Doing the storyboards for the Olympic Stadium idea I have done today (rough storyboards below), also I am going to add some of the footage I recorded earlier in the week, mix it into video I can show on Tuesday.

30/11/10

NA (not attended), so therefore I will show my idea to my peers on the 7th December instead. While doing the South Bank idea a week later.

6/12/10

Got all my footage, audio and sketches put them all into Final Cut Pro, to show tomorrow. Exported as a avi Quicktime file, then exported onto Youtube, so it will be ready for class tomorrow.

7/12/10

Showed the Video today, explained my first idea about the Olympic stadium. My peers felt it was more of a London Tonight idea rather than a Final Major idea. I've also added I could film adding other locations, Such as Emerties Stadium (Arsenal Stadium) and Wembley Stadium as-well. But still felt it wouldn't work well. Next week try to explain the South Bank Idea with some footage.

10/12/10

Got out a Sony HDD camera and a tri-pod for tomorrow filming at South Bank.

11/12/10

Filmed a test shot at the South Bank today, also been to a Graffiti and Skate Park at Mild End as-well.

End of the second blog for now. Third blog soon. Bye.

Right first blog of 2011, oh my the way sorry about the delay.

Right sorry about the delay but...Hello, First blog of 2011. Start of my Final Major Project Moving images blog. This blog represents my actions for the pre-production and is backed up by the reasons I have used and the evidence present in my portfolio. It shows how I got to the stage of production.

7/11/10

Started writing down my ideas (by the way, all of my ideas are mainly Documentaries Ideas), first idea is about the Olympic Stadium, I thought of this idea when walking pass West Ham United's ground called the Boleyn Ground (Upton Park) when I was going to film another project a month back on a League Cup night, were all the stools are about to being open at around 3 o'clock.

The idea is based after the 2012 Olympics games when the stadium is available. The two clubs who are intention to use the stadium, are West Ham United & Newham Council against Tottenham Hotspurs and AEG (who own the O2 Dome) However Spurs are also looking to rebuild their own ground.
What I will like to do for this idea, is to ask West Ham and Tottenham Fans, also shops owners around each ground about the purpose new stadium, what would effect if they move stadium/or even rebuilding the stadium/or the thought of expanding the stadium.

9/11/10

My Second idea is about the South bank, were they Graffiting , BMXing and Skateboarding under the South bank.

What I like to do for this idea, to film at the South Bank and ask the people who graffiti, skate for bike, ask them creative questions, also I want this to be fly on the wall, try to be experiment with camera angles, when skaters and bikers are doing their tricks.

10/11/10

Third idea is were I live, there is possibility that they are going to build a prison near were I live, which is on the site of the old Runwell hospital (with these two links would help what I am explaining:
from bbc, from echo). But lately they have put this idea on ice, due to economic reasons.

My idea is to film were the old Runwell hospital is, at this moment of time is like a ghost town, also I want to film in Wickford, asking the locals would they want this Prison here? While the Prison is on ice at the moment, would they like to have houses build instead on the prison?

16/11/10

Talking about our ideas with a few of my peers today, with drawings of mind maps from one of my peers did today.

Also I did my own mind map today aswell. Seeing my tutor next week to discussed my ideas for the final major project.

23/11/10

Saw my Tutor today, to discussed my final major project for Moving images. Tutor felt the prison idea wouldn't be a good idea, felt it probably won't be built, want I discussing about it .

However with the other two ideas, he felt they will be achievable. Because I'm in the developing the idea stage. He said to me with the Stadium idea:

'Establish location shots, storyboard facts of the documentary. Photographs and drawings. Show next week.'

Meanwhile for the South Bank idea:

Get a camera and mic down to the site, start experimenting with different filming angles and taking interviews. Show in two weeks time.

And I've booked a camera next week to go up the South Bank, meanwhile with the stadium idea I'm going up to White Hart Lane (Tottenham Hotspurs ground) tomorrow to do a recce.

End of the blog for now. Next blog soon. Bye.
