12th and last blog of FMP Moving Images Project

Hi again, final post of the final major project. So here is the conclusion and final version of the video for the blog.

10/5/11

Toady, I've been still continuing with the editing in Final Cut. I've done nearly 90 seconds. Nearly finished need to finish the final scenes. Feedback so far I need to add a scene where it can establish the South Bank. Also remove a scene, because I've repeated the scene already.

I've also blended the audio with each over, so it flows better into each scene. I've done this by going into the audio layer, extend the audio piece in the layer with the next audio piece in that layer , highlight both of them press apple + alt + T to create this[1].

Then I reduced the audio sound (background noise such as skateboarding sound) by highlighting the audio timeline, then going into the viewer screen, then in motion sidebar reduce the Dbs to, so the voice-over is clear to listen to the viewer.

11/5/11

I have complete all the editing today bringing the last few scenes into the main timeline.

Got some feedback. Two things I need to improve on this adding credits to the film. And removing the soundtrack for two reasons, one it didn't need it from a professional point of opinion and secondly copyright reasons. So therefore I will remove the Daft Punk soundtrack and add credits.

13/5/11

Today I've added credits into my film. Also, remove the Daft Punk soundtrack at the start. After I done this I've exported the film file by export - Using QuickTime Conversion. Exported as a H264 compressor.

After I exported the file, uploaded onto Vimeo and Facebook to get some feedback.

That is all. Bye.

Blog no 11 of FMP Moving Images Project

Hi again, new post. So here is the continuation of the blog from last time.

1/5/11

Done my final storyboards for what I want to do in Final cut pro.

3/5/11

Been focusing on Final Cut adding more footage onto the time line. Got some early feedback, they mention the constancy of the shots and the rhyme of the video so far.

I have also, done a script for the audio for tomorrow. I have wrote this myself ready to record for tomorrow.

4/5/11

Done a rough voice recording Today, I did this by recording this in a basic recording studio inside are department.

I used a voice editing programme to record the voices on a program called Audacity. Very Simple program to use in my opinion, press the record button when the recordings are ready to record their voices. Press the record button again to finish the recordings. Then save then export as a WAV or AIFF file to drag into Final Cut.

Then in Final Cut, place the audio file into the timeline, crop the audio in the right places in were audio needs to be place. Got some feedback from this, they say I need to be more editing to be done to match with the rhyme of the audio. Which I agree with. Also, they said I may need to re-film some shots around the South Bank (video below, Big Ben for example where I need to improve). So I am re-filming at the South Bank tomorrow.

After this I went back to re-record the audio from early on. After I record the audio, I went into Adobe Soundbooth to re-touch the audio. Then saved it as a new AIFF file. Then placed it back into Final Cut.

5/5/11

Re-record the footage at the South Bank, also adding a few new scenes, such as skater smoking a cigarette with his skateboard. Uploaded the new footage into Final Cut. After I done this I re-touch some of the footage, such as size and angle, then placed onto the timeline.

9/5/11

Done more editing in Final Cut today, done nearly 30 seconds where will be going to fit in, at the start of the film. I've added a 15 second music track at the start as-well. The audio track I'm using is called 'Daft Punk, Da Funk (1997)'.

End of blog for now. New post soon. Bye

Blog no 10 of FMP Moving Images Project

Hi again, new post. So here is the continuation of the blog from last time.

22/4/11

I've been looking for some videos with skateboarding with either narrative or a poem on the internet today. I've looked at this video with skateboarding and poetry. Felt that the poem is very passionate about skateboarding, overall I felt the poem was cheesy right at the end of the video which the change of pace of the music (see video below). Shot wise, I felt they change the camera shots flows well to the next shot.

Video below is about a real story. A documentary that focused on the typical incorrect stereotype of skateboarding and how skateboarding is looked on in society. I felt it worked well as a documentary. I felt the video flows well with different shots throughout. What I didn't like was how long the film was (10 minutes). Felt it could have been shorter, which could have worked better.

What I can take from these videos. Is to make a two minute long story about skateboarding at the South Bank, rather than stick a music track what I what was originally wanted to do. Which the music track might not work in pace I wanted to work with the video. Also, I want to focusing on positively on skateboarding at the South Bank.

26/4/11

I have started on Post-Production process of my video. I have been shorting out what footage I will put into my Video in Final Cut. I cropped the footage that I wanted and placing onto the timeline.

I have decided what will my intro scene, I've added a fade in into footage that will start my video with. I've done this by going into viewer window in motion side bar, gone into opacity, reducing the opacity in timeline by adding a keyframe.

27/4/11

Been continuing in Post-production adding more footage into the timeline in Final Cut. I have export the footage what I wanted as a Quicktime file by going into export - QuickTime Movie. Also, reviewing where my footage will go into order for my Video.

So, therefore I can add in a Scoreboard into which order I wanted in this weekend.

End of blog for now. New post soon. Bye

9th blog of FMP Moving Images Project

Hi again, second post in 24 hours. So here is the continuation of the blog from last time.

4/4/11

I've once again reviewed the footage from last week, what I felt it didn't work was not using the tripod, I felt it didn't work, too much of a shakey feel to take into my final footage, for next time use a tripod the next time I film up the South Bank (footage below).

But what I did feel that work from last week was the use of what camera angles I will like to take into my final footage with when I re-film up the South Bank for Wednesday and Thursday (footage's below of which camera angles).

5/4/11

Weather report for Wednesday and Thursday, its gonna be both hot days and sunny throughout the day.

6/4/11

Filmed up the South Bank this evening. Filmed around the South Bank at the skate park at the South Bank with different camera shots. I felt much satisfied with the shots I've taken tonight, takes these shots into editing much confidently, due to being more confident with the camera I'm using (Sony Pd170).

7/4/11

Once again filming up the South Bank today. Filmed around the South Bank at the skate park at the South Bank with different camera shots. Today not focusing on the Skaters, but focusing what's around the South Bank such as Graffiti and other props. Overall I felt very confident that I can take these two days worth of footage into Final Cut Pro to edit with.

12/4/11

Uploaded all the footage from last Wednesday and Thursday into Final Cut Pro by using the set up from last time out (look at notes from 2/3/11).

15/4/11

I've reviewed the footage from last week, what I felt using the tripod worked well from last time. I really fell very confident that I can take those two days of footage and make a two and half minute short movie out of it, rather than stretching out for an eight minute with not a lot of action in the film it will work much better with.

18/4/11

Been considering today what kind of background music I will put into my Final video for this project. I've looked at some music that could work with my video such as Beastie Boys, Motorhead, Sex Pistols, NWA and The Clash for example. I felt these might not work due to the right tempo that I want. So, instead I might use a narrative or a poem about skateboarding. I believe it will be a different concept than to have shake-boarders with a music track behind it, which it doesn't work.

End of blog for now. New post soon. Bye

8th Blog of FMP Moving Images Project

Hi again, new post today. So here is the continuation of the blog from last time.

26/3/11

Looked at a video with skaters, but this time with this video they have dogs in as skateboards (they used green-screen for the dogs to created the skateboards in mid air, while stuff dogs a skateboards). What I also like was the use of the camera angles throughout.

28/3/11

I've reviewed the footage from last week, what I did like was the use of the skateboards in close up (footage below).

I also feel that I need to re-film again. For two reasons, first it needs a crowd to work well with, also filming in the evening/later in the week to work as-well (more skaters to film then lunch-time). Second reason I used the manual focus lens on the camera, that didn't work, if it on automatic focus lens I believe the footage will come out much better (screen-shot below).

31/3/11

Once again filming up the South Bank today. Done some different shots to experiment with today around the skate part at the South Bank with different camera shots. Also I tried without the tripod today, to give a edgy feel.

1/4/11

Uploaded all the footage from Tuesday into Final Cut Pro by using the set up from last time out (look at notes from 2/3/11). I've also again booked out a Camera and tri-pod for next week.

End of blog for now. New post soon. Bye

7th Blog of FMP Moving Images Project

Hi again, new post today. So here is the continuation of the blog from last time.

5/3/11

Done some editing with the footage I've took footage from last week. I used Final Cut Pro for the editing. Placed all the footage were it need to be placed.

I put the fading ins were they needed to be placed, by going into the viewer sidebar and in motion sidebar, then in Opacity I place the keys were to fade in and fade out. Then added the track onto the timeline. Then exported as a Quicktime file to be showed on Wednesday.

8/3/11

Today, I've showed by Video today to get some feedback. Early feedback my peers said they like the edgy styling I've used in the video and I should continue with this. But what I should improve on this zooming out when the skaters hitting a grind shot. Also, focus on different skaters. Which I do agree with these opinions hope to continue this when I film next time out.

15/3/11

Today I done the paper work for the permission to film at the South Bank next week to film there. Explained I'm a student, only me and a friend to film up there and I wanted to film at the South Bank for my Final Major Project. After I done the paper work I e-mailed back to the South Bank.
Also I checked another location near the South Bank, underneath Waterloo station, the road called Leake Street were there is place they do graffiti whereas you don't need permission to film if there any problem filming at the South Bank.

21/3/11

Got some feedback at the South Bank, I've got some permission ready to film there for tomorrow. I booked out a camera and tri-pod for tomorrow.

22/3/11

Been filming at the South Bank today. Done some different locations and different shots to experiment with today around the South Bank with focusing on the skaters with different camera shots. Overall I felt more satisfied with the filming from last time out.

24/3/11

Uploaded all the footage from Tuesday into Final Cut Pro by using the set up from last time out (look at notes from 2/3/11). I've also booked out a Camera and tri-pod for next week.
